I really wanted to start this blog post by saying “it’s finally milkshake weather!” Buttt that’s not exactly true because it’s currently 50 degrees here in Ohio. In the middle of May. Love that. Regardless of rain or shine, cold or warm, I decided to make myself a milkshake. I have to say it’s the best decision I’ve made in a while.
I honestly can’t tell you the last time I had a milkshake. There’s this restaurant here in Columbus that makes the best vegan mint chocolate milkshake, and I’ve literally been craving it every dad since the restaurants closed. So, I decided enough was enough and I made myself this delicious vegan chocolate swirl milkshake. This milkshake has both chocolate and vanilla ice cream as well as a delicious vegan chocolate sauce drizzle. I mean what more can you ask for? This milkshake will definitely cheer you up, especially on those bad weather days.
How to Make a Vegan Chocolate Swirl Milkshake
What Ice Cream should I use?
Honestly, any kind of vegan ice cream would work for this chocolate swirl milkshake. I used Aldi’s Earth Grown vegan chocolate and vanilla almond milk ice creams and they worked super well! This isn’t sponsored at all, but Aldi has the best line of affordable vegan products. Their vegan ice creams are honestly one of my favorites on the market because they are delicious, creamy, and taste pretty close to real ice cream. The only downside is that they only offer chocolate and vanilla flavors.
What milk should I use?
Again, any non-dairy milk would work for this milkshake. Personally, I prefer oat milk as it is creamy and doesn’t have an overpowering flavor. My favorite is Chobani’s extra creamy oat milk. I literally use if for everything and it has the best texture and flavor.
How to make a milkshake:
If you’ve never made a milkshake before, I’ve got you. They are pretty easy to make. All you need is a good blender and you’re set.
I used my Vitamix and it worked really well. You want to make sure that your blender can handle blending something super thick like a milkshake.
Add in the ice cream and milk and then blend it all together till it’s smooth and creamy. If you need to thicken the milkshake, you can either add in some ice or add in more ice cream!

Vegan Chocolate Swirl Milkshake
- 1 cup vegan vanilla ice cream
- 1 cup vegan chocolate ice cream
- 1/3 cup oat milk
- 3 tbsp chocolate sauce/ syrup
- Add all of the ingredients except the chocolate sauce into a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Drizzle the chocolate sauce into a 12oz glass. Then pour the milkshake on top of the sauce. Drizzle more chocolate sauce on if you prefer.
- Top with more vegan ice cream or vegan whipped cream and serve.
